Introduction (i.e. why I'm writing this thing)

I travel to seek adventure, to push myself to my limits, to meet new people and to see what there is in the world that I've been missing out on. Travelling makes my heart race and makes me excited to get out of bed every morning. To travel is to take part in a sort of love affair. The exhilaration you feel every time you hop off a bus in a new city and take a look around, go dancing with a group of strangers you just met at your hostel, or even order a meal in a country where you don’t speak the language, is similar to allowing some special person to get to know the depths of your soul and have them return the favour. It’s that feeling of letting go, being exposed and finding out you had nothing to be afraid of. The vulnerability involved in solo travel means that every experience touches your core and changes you in a way that other experiences can’t.

Have I convinced you to travel yet?

I decided to write about my travel experiences because I received a lot of questions while I was away, and because I feel like I learned a few things worth sharing. I tried blogging about my travels from the beginning (http://awfulpartydotcom.blogspot.ca/) but it took too much of my precious time to do a good job, and to be honest, I didn't think people really wanted to read what I had to say. I quit after two blog entries, but after spending two years on the road I've decided to try again. I have a lot of stories to tell and I really want to help people take the leap and get out into the world.

My plan is to discuss different aspects of travelling solo rather than go through all my experiences in chronological order. Hopefully I’ll write new entries regularly (let’s face it, I’m unemployed and have the time), and hopefully you’ll like what you read!

  1. I love your blog so far and I'm excited to read more! Are you open to topic ideas?
I would be interested to read one about tourist traps you experienced or avoided, or how you dealt with poverty (e.g., children begging to you or sent to sell things on the street), or the business-like attitude of certain local people towards "outsiders".
I bet you could write a cool one about wildlife too... critters you've encountered or how you've witnessed people relate to the land in different places.
And one about meeting people while travelling (hostels, couch surfing, local people,...).

  2. Thanks! I am definitely open for suggestions. There are so many things I want to write about and those topics are all on the list.
Thanks again for the input! :)
